The Great Green Kakapo
The Kakapo, also called owl parrot, is a species of large, flightless nocturnal parrot endemic to New Zealand. The Kakapo is critically endangered; as of June 2011, only 131 living individuals are known, most of which have been given names. We are going to call this one Nestor. He is 7.5 x 2.5 x 3 inches – definitely a miniature parrot. Real Kakapos can grow to be 24 inches, weight up to 9 pounds, and they can live to be 120 years old.
They also seem to have a fondness for shy Englishmen
I sculpted and painted this little Kakapo and I’m posting him on National Bird Day – let’s all remember how precious these creatures are and let’s try not to kill them all off, shall we?
Big White Bird – Bird Sculpture
I am not really sure what kind of bird this is – Heron? Saw a photo that inspired me to do this one but I can’t find it now. I know the bird in the photo was from Florida. Any who – he’s a big white bird!
