No sign of Peanut’s friends

This is an empty humane mouse trap made by Havahart :) Nice company name huh? I got this as a back up for this:

An ultrasonic mouse deterrent! It looks like they work. I accidentally cut the top off the package with the company name but you can see what they look like.

So you see, no need to kill anyone – technology and innovation to the rescue. People in Maine need to get with the times!

Know what you’re eating?

If it’s so safe, why are they hiding it?

Pray for Peanut

I woke up this morning and found this little mouse – we will call him Peanut – stuck to a glue trap. The people that own this house have glue traps out, I have been turning them over so the mice don’t get stuck but they must have turned them back over because little Peanut was very stuck. Apparently, he had lost his balance and fell down on the trap. The entire side of his body was stuck in the glue. I used warm water and scissors to get him out of the trap and then I coated him in flour to cover the glue. He is still alive but I don’t know if he will make it or not. He is so tiny and he has a lot of glue stuck to him. I’m not sure if there is poison in the glue or not but I think I’d hurt him if I tried to get more of it off. He is resting now but his breath is heavy…not sure what to do for him at this point.

You pay these people’s salaries when you buy from Tyson

Please read this and think about whether or not you want your money to go to people like this. I don’t know about you but I sure don’t feel like buying these guys a beer after work….

From Mercy For Animals:

The Humane Society of the United States has released gruesome undercover footage shot inside a gestation-crate facility that supplies to Tyson – one of the world’s largest meat processors.

The shocking investigation reveals:

Mother pigs confined in tiny metal gestation crates, uable to turn around for nearly their entire lives;

Workers punching and kicking mother pigs and piglets, and whipping piglets around by their hind legs, smashing them into concrete floors, and throwing them high into the air;

Employees throwing piglets’ testicles at each other and feeding them back to the mother pigs for “fun”;

Pregnant pigs suffering from severe rectal and uterine prolapses without proper veterinary treatment;

Dead and decaying piglets – including some who were mummified – littering the facility, including in piles next to mother pigs in crates; and

Dead pigs left to rot in their gestation crates for days. One dead pig was half-buried in grain from an automatic feeder.

Recently, a friend of mine was in her front yard, working on her garden.  She left her front door open, and her bird was talking to her from inside the house.  After a while, a Sun Conure flew from a nearby tree into her front door, landing on her bird’s cage.  Her bird’s voice must have attracted him.  The Conure was clearly upset, and extremely hungry.

The Saddest Show On Earth

Baby elephants are taken from their mothers, often at the cost of the mother’s life because a mother elephant does not give up her baby easily. The babies are beaten nonstop to break their will, then go through a training process of more cruelty and abuse. That is how they get a 10,000-pound elephant to perform the unnatural tricks they do for the audience’s pleasure.

Delta deadly for pets?

Dogs, planes (photo by: flickr user derekb)

“For 35 pet travelers, 2011 was the year they met their maker. More than half of the deceased, 19 pets, flew Delta airlines.”

“Some of the Animal Incident Reports indicate the pets injured themselves during flights, desperate to break free of their crates. Rides in cargo holds can be grueling, with extreme temperature swings.”

Not good. I always flew my dog on Continental – but always in the cabin – I had always heard they were the best for pets and they donated planes to fly pets out for the rescuers during during Katrina, so I like them. :) I think I’ll drive the birds.

OK, I have got to stop posting and get some work done LOL I think I set a record for myself today with blog posts LOL

Florida to allow dyeing pets?

Reblogged from Terpsinoe:

For 45 years, Florida has banned the dyeing of animals- usually rabbits and chicks- for Easter. Now, one dog groomer in South Florida has single-handedly convinced all but eight members of the legislature to overturn the ban. This would make it legal to dye animals only a few days old and sell them like Easter eggs.

The reason the practice was made illegal in the first place was apparently the high number of animals that were killed during the dying process- the dyes are usually toxic, especially to young animals.

Floridians lose their senses - oops.. Please email the Governor before they do something really stupid! Update: Well the Governor has acknowledged receipt of my email, we'll see what he has to say for himself. Dyeing baby chickens?!!?!?!? What has gotten into people? Too much time in the sun maybe... And who's bright idea was this to begin with? How to Boycott Iowa over Evil AG Gag Law

So we have this evil law in Iowa that helps large corporations abuse farm animals and it needs to be rescinded, but what to do? It’s great to say “Boycott Iowa!” but what does that mean? Cancel your long awaited Iowa vacation? I don’t think many of us were planning on vacationing in Iowa. So what can we do? Well, we can stop buying products that are produced in Iowa, and we can let the companies that produce these products know that we aren’t going to be contributing to the torture of farm animals and the Iowa government’s attempts to hide it.

So there you go! Easy enough right? ;)

Think about it like this, if someone offered to give you one of these products – or all of them – for free, if you let them beat a pig to death with a cane, would you take any of them? If not, why are you buying them?
In the world today YOU ARE WHAT YOU BUY
