Flying Bird Sculpture – Snowy Owl

Bird Sculpture – Snowy Owl Sculpture

I finished this one a little differently to let the paper show through a bit. I think it works because of the Snowy Owl’s coloring. These guys are just so cute – would love to see one in real life!

Kakapo

The Great Green Kakapo

The Kakapo, also called owl parrot, is a species of large, flightless nocturnal parrot endemic to New Zealand. The Kakapo is critically endangered; as of June 2011, only 131 living individuals are known, most of which have been given names. We are going to call this one Nestor. He is 7.5 x 2.5 x 3 inches – definitely a miniature parrot. Real Kakapos can grow to be 24 inches, weight up to 9 pounds, and they can live to be 120 years old.

They also seem to have a fondness for shy Englishmen :)

I sculpted and painted this little Kakapo and I’m posting him on National Bird Day – let’s all remember how precious these creatures are and let’s try not to kill them all off, shall we?

Takahe Bird – endangered New Zealand bird

“Help, the cats are eating my babies!”

said the parrot. And it’s true. These parrots are endangered – only 1000 of them left. A woman named Caroline is trying to save them from the feral cats that have invaded their island in the Bahamas. Let’s help her out! All proceeds from the sale of this parrot are going to Parrots International, which supports Caroline’s work.

You can buy it from me and I will send the money to Parrots International or you can use “Other” to check out w/Etsy, send me proof you donated at least $30 to Parrot’s International, and I will send you a code that gives you a $30 discount so you will just pay for shipping – I will verify that a donation was made.

We can save these parrots! Let’s do it!!!!!
