She is really close to the ground here.
Oops, she saw me!
Up the tree and off!
And a safe landing
This is only the third bird I have seen here. A few days ago I did see a cardinal couple but the were flitting through the trees so fast I didn’t stand a chance of getting a shot.
Maybe it’s just the lack of water here? I wonder if it would help if I set up a bird bath?

if I were you, I would definitely set up a water feature.. bird bath, or if you can have running water somehow, that would be great. we have a small pond with a waterfall and the birds are constantly in there, but they also visit a small birdbath we have. let us know what you decide to do.
I like the woodpecker too.
I’ll have to rig up something – I miss the birds
Bird bath and a feeder is a great idea.
I was researching how to build a pond yesterday!
Oh that is way too hard – just get a plastic kiddy bath and put some seed in a bowl (I am very lazy!!)
Ha, that is what I decided, too much work, especially right now but then I watched a documentary on frogs, and how they are all dying from a fungus called Chytrid and I thought a pond would be great for them too! By the end of the show I had imagined buying a big piece of land and running a wildlife sanctuary, I was going to call it The Old Bird’s Home LOL
You should come over here and we could build a pond together!
You better watch it… I will show up!
The frogs are disappearing in Australia too!
Hum-m-m-m-m. Now that you mention it…I never see the woodies going to my bird baths to bathe or to drink. Water is a big draw for most birds. My woodies love their suet and nuts.
I have put some food out – not in a feeder though – but no one is eating it. Maybe it’s the cats. I have been putting food out for ht puppy’s mother and I have attracted a cat and her kitten, maybe they are scaring off the birds?
I love woodpeckers! I rarely saw them in California, but now I get to see them all the time.

This is the first one I have ever seen! I heard one every morning in Maine – a big one judging by the sound he made – but never saw him.
Cute photos… woodpeckers love suet………. are you in a situation where you can put up a suet ball or block anywhere?
Yes, I’ll have to set up a little area for them.
Yep. Set up a bird bath. Water is important, almost more important than food.
I’m on it!
